Drinda Wilson, a facilitator at Columbia College, was the evening speaker at The 30 Hour Training on September 25th, 2009 at Southwood United Church. She presented two sessions on “Who are Our Learners”, which addressed immigration in Calgary, and “The Principles of Adult Education”. This training session was hosted by Calgary Cooperative ESL Ministry (http://www.eslcooperative.ca). Drinda is a facilitator in the English as a Second Language Program and the University Preparation Program. She has worked in Academic Upgrading as well. She has been with Columbia College for four years. She is also Vice President of Calgary Cooperative ESL Ministries. The 30 Hour Training is an annual three weekend conference designed to enable volunteers in churches throughout the city to offer quality ESL classes to immigrants, refugees and international students who live in their neighbourhoods. Cooperative ESL Ministries (CESLM) is a group of local Calgary residents who have come together to fill a gap that they have seen in society’s integration of the immigrant, refugee, and international community who have come to Calgary. They believe that ordinary, open-hearted Calgarians, with training in cross-cultural communication and good principles of adult education for language learners, can make a difference.
