Essential Workplace Skills – Sales & Service; Trades and Transport
This course is designed to assist students who require language training to prepare for a career in Sales, Service, Trades, Transportation or Warehouse. Focus is given to the development of reading, writing, listening and speaking competencies. A major emphasis is placed on active participation to encourage problem solving and confidence in responding to various situations in the workplace. The program ensures intensive essential English language development, grammar, vocabulary study, and numeracy, as well as, pronunciation and accent reduction if required. Students will be introduced to career-goal related document use and math skills for the workplace.

Essential Workplace Skills – Health Care Aide
This course is designed to assist students who require intermediate language training to prepare for becoming a Health Care Aide. Focus is given to the development of reading, writing, listening and speaking competencies. A major emphasis is placed on active participation to encourage critical thinking and confidence in responding to various situations in the health care field. The course ensures intensive English language vocabulary development, as well as career-related vocabulary. Focused pronunciation, rhythm and intonation practice is included in each class.

EWTT 181, 182 Employment Preparation
In this course students will learn about job strategies, workplace communication, and culture. This course includes such topics as resume writing, interviewing skills, telephone etiquette, job search strategies, customer service skills and workplace culture.

EWSE 149 Essential Workplace Skills – Work Experience
This course provides the learner with the opportunity to apply workplace knowledge, skills and attitudes acquired through other course work and previous life experiences. A work experience contract is established with an employer once a workplace placement has been determined. The Work Experience component has an off-site work-based placement where the student will receive on the job skills training in their selected employment field.
