Waste and Recycling Services Presentation

We welcomed Karima, to our class, from the City of Calgary Waste and Recycling Services department. She taught us a lot. She demonstrated how close our cars can be from the bluc and black bins (1 metre or they won’t be able to pick them up). She showed us far apart the blue and black bins must be (30cm or they won’t be able to pick them up). She unveiled the new green recycling bin that everyone will have in 2017. It is for compost which is 65% of our black bin garbage currently. So our landfill waste will be reduced by 65% when we begin using the green bin.

As you can see, we learned a lot about our recycling and garbage bins and which plastics we should put in or keep out. Next, she gave us various garbage/recycling materials and we demonstrated to her where each one should go. We were all excited to go home to our garbage and start sorting it better.
