The Program for People with Developmental Disabilities offered by Columbia College, Calgary is one of a kind. It trains students in various areas, based on the unique occupational interests of each student. These interests can be in alignment with potential employment opportunities in the fields of food services, janitorial, child care, manufacturing, retail, automotive, laundry, pet care, and office support. The aim of these courses is to provide community access and employment services for adults with developmental disabilities. These programs enable people to become self-sufficient and be contributing members of the society.

Some of the courses offered are:

• Personal Development: This course entails the development of personal and interpersonal skills in individuals, team building activities, self-esteem boosting exercises and training in leadership skills.

• Computer Basics and Work-related Academics: This course gives students a basic introduction to computers and its usage.

• Job Maintenance: Through this course, students are given the opportunity to discuss and explore issues, concerns, and challenges related to getting and maintaining their job.

• Work Experience: The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to work in their chosen occupation and enhance their skills on the job. The support staff helps students seek work experience placement.

• Job Search: This is more of a career guidance course, where students are taught about the qualifications for various jobs and ways to seek employment.

• Job Safety: In this course, students get to learn about the risks involved in their jobs and ways to ensure safety on the job.
